Flair® Convex 1 Piece Pouch
Flair® Convex pouches are the next generation of convex pouches that provide the security of a traditional, hard convex flange with the comfort, flexibility and protection of a soft convex.
How Is The Welland Convex Pouch Different To Other Convex Pouches?
Recessed stomas can be a major management issue for ostomates and nurses. The idea of convex flanges were revolutionary in their time, for dealing with the continual leakage and subsequent sore skin that developed over time due to uneven peristomal skin or recessed stomas. | | | | However, with new technology, Welland Medical have been able to over come many of the hurdles and have produced a revolutionary new convex pouch which conforms to the body as it becoms heated with the bodies temperature. |
Providing Pressure Where You Need It-But Not Where You Don't
The advanced convexity range of Flair® Convex 1 piece pouches have a larger flange for extra security and encompass a domed plateau. With the heat of the body, the domed plateau complies with the profile of the recess around the stoma making it ideal for full or partially retracted/recessed stomas, or even stomas that have tilted causing a recess only on one side of the stoma. |
Softness Combined With Depth
This individual convex customisation has been made possible by the unique flexible mouldable plastic (thermoplastic) that allows the convex to conform to the body. The surface of the plastic is smooth without any hard, rigid edges that may potentially harm the stoma compared to traditional convex products. | | | | The flexible nature of the plateau reinforcement allows the user to fold the flange during application to ensure correct alignment.
The soft, flexible domed plateau also ensures that a secure fit is achieved right up to the edge of the stoma without extreme tissue distortion, unlike other convex pouches that offer a flat plateau whereby leakage can occur at the site of the stoma. | |
The flexible flange moulds to the body, which coupled with a wider hydrocolloid flange, helps prevent it from popping off, therefor, providing security where it is needed the most. Many users from clinical trials reported the fact that a belt was not required to hold the pouch in place. |
Where Can Flair® Convex Pouches Be Used?
| | | | | Retracted stomas | | | | | Slightly sunken, tilted or recessed stomas | | | | | Post-operative scarring/keloid scars | | | | | Hypergranulation | | | | | Post-operative weight gain/loss | | | | | Flaccid abdomen-'jelly belly' | | | | | Poorley sited stomas i.e. in a skin fold (emergency surgery) | | | | | Loop stomas-especially ileostomies (proximal end can become flush to the skin) | | | | | Telescoping stoma |
