Fitting a 2 Piece Appliance
Fitting the Base Plate
| Take the base plate and remove it from the cardboard protector | | | Cut the base plate to your individual stoma requirements using the template provided
| | Remove the release paper from the back of the base plate and place over your stoma. Work your hand around the base plate to ensure a good bond with your skin. Hold your hand on the base plate for about 30 seconds as this helps the adhesion
|
Fitting the 2 piece Pouch | If you are using a drainable pouch, ensure that the clip or tie has been applied first (see 1 piece appliance). If you are using a urostomy appliance please make sure that the tap is in a closed position | | | Take the 2 piece pouch and hold against the base plate
| | You will see that the base plate and the pouch will line up. Press the two together until you feel the pouch snap shut against the base plate (similar to a “Tupperware” system)
| | To ensure a complete seal, work your fingers around the base plate and pouch firmly
| | If you wear a belt or girdle please attach it now
|
Removal of the Pouch or Burping the Pouch | The base plate does not need to be removed every time you empty your pouch. The base plate may remain in place for several days | | | Carefully take hold of the pouch and ease open the pouch
| | If you are burping the pouch to let out any excess air that has built up, open the pouch slightly and let out the air and then seal the pouch back up firmly
| | Remove the pouch completely and empty the contents down the toilet
| | Clean the pouch thoroughly and replace firmly on to the base plate
