A female medical secretary aged 42 years old has an ileal conduit as a result of a failed Mitrofonoff pouch (urinary conduit). Due to her continuing problems, she has had to have her stoma re-sited 6 times and her abdomen is covered in scars making pouches very hard to adhere to. Subsequently, she cannot maintain a secure seal to her abdomen.
She also has increased urine output as she is on diuretic tablets for heart failure. She is a very smartly dressed lady but needs constant counselling as she is permanently ‘wet’ due to her pouch leaking. Added to all of this, she is allergic to a lot of products that are available to her to secure her pouch to her abdomen, as they are acrylic adhesive based. Whilst using these products to keep the pouch attached to her body, she developed contact dermatitis. She uses 112 urostomy pouches a month, 120 adhesive products to keep her pouch attached, plus a variety of steroids, creams and skin barriers to help her with the skin problems caused by the leakage and skin reactions.
RESULT: Mrs T started to use the WBF® on her peristomal skin and the contact dermatitis subsided substantially. Furthermore, she found she was not allergic to it due to the silicone technology of the product. Using HydroFrame® she found that her pouch stayed on much longer and she remained dry, which was a huge breakthrough for her. This gave her increased confidence as she could now work safely in the knowledge that she would be leak free.
A lady who has a FAP (Familial Adenomatous Polyposis) and a desmoids tumour uses a 2-piece product. She found that her pouches lifted at night and needed to sleep with a plastic liner underneath her to prevent soiling the bedcovers. Her lack of confidence due to leakage meant that she changed her pouch everyday even though it was a 2-piece drainable. But since using HydroFrame® things have improved for her.
She feels safer and only needs to change her pouch 3 times a week as the HydroFrame® has meant that the pouch stays on and reduces the amount of leakage at night time. She comments on how much happier she is and how she can sleep at night without having to check that her pouch has not leaked.
Another HydroFrame® user said that she feels much safer and only needs to change her pouch three times per week. She says how much more comfortable she is and can sleep through the night as she does not have to get up to check her pouch has not leaked.
A 27 year old gentleman has a temporary loop Ileostomy that has prolapsed badly. His stoma pouches would not adhere to the skin due to the weight of his prolapsed stoma. Prior to using HydroFrame® the patient was using Retention strips. He developed contact dermatitis and found the tape wouldn’t adhere to his skin. He has found the HydroFrame® easy to apply, comfortable and most importantly, they do not cause skin irritation.
